Getting to Buda Castle

Guests can arrive by bus (16, 16A, 116, 216) to Dísz tér, by funicular from Clark Ádám tér, by the Várkert Bazár escalator, on foot or by car to the castle car parks.

By bus

Four lines stop at Dísz tér: 16 (Széll Kálmán tér to Deák Ferenc tér), 16A (Széll Kálmán tér to Dísz tér), 116 (Fény utcai piac to Dísz tér) and the 216 loop service, which climbs to the Castle from Deák Ferenc tér. Lines 16 and 216 also stop at Donáti utca.

On foot

Several walking routes lead up to the Castle: from Clark Ádám tér along Hunyadi János út and the palace garden steps, through the garden and stairs of Várkert Bazár, from the river up the Schulek Frigyes steps to the Fisherman's Bastion, from Széll Kálmán tér through the Vienna Gate, and from Krisztinaváros along Palota út towards Dísz tér.

By funicular

The Castle Hill Funicular runs from Clark Ádám tér up to Szent György tér.

From Várkert Bazár

An escalator and a lift take guests from the garden of Várkert Bazár up to the Castle at the eastern approach. From there the Palace and Szent György tér are a few minutes' walk.

By car and parking

The Royal Palace Quarter runs three underground car parks: Várgarázs 1 at Apród utca, Várgarázs 2 and 3 on Palota út. All have limited capacity and places cannot be reserved in advance. The Palota út express lift goes up to palace level. Aranybástya is reached from Hunyadi János út, and cars can also stop on Csónak utca.

Groups arriving by coach

Coaches may only enter the Castle with prior registration and on a designated route, with a short window for setting down and picking up. Agree group arrivals in advance with the venue and the Castle authority.

Venues at the foot of the hill

Várkert Bazár, IDA Bistro, Hotel Clark, Budai Vigadó and the riverside hotels stand on the embankment or at the foot of Castle Hill, so guests do not have to go up to the Castle District at all.
